Emerald moths, Geometrinae, are the group of moths which are the adult figure of geometer caterpillar and have green wings. We often see the 2-3cm diameter of its wings, still, this moth, Tanaorhinus reciprocatus confuciarius, is as large as 7cm at most, one of the biggest emerald moths in Japan.
The distinctive character of this huge moth, resting in the wall of my university, startled me at a glance even from far away. I ran up to the moth unconsciously and looked carefully at the wings. The white complex pattern consisted of scales are just as if wind blowing over the grassland or handmade cardigan shape of Scandinavia. The green as the ground colour is also changing its expression according to its angle. I’ll never be bored with observing this beautiful creature.
